Understanding the path to protection.
Emergency (ex parte) order
A judge can grant temporary protection right away, often the same day.
The 10-day hearing
A hearing is set — usually within about 10 days — where a judge decides on a longer-term order.
A 50B order can last up to one year
And it can be renewed if you still need protection.
What an order can do
Order no contact, grant you the home, set temporary custody and support, and require firearms to be surrendered.
We prepare your story and your evidence so the court sees clearly what you’re facing — and we stand beside you at every hearing.

Safety first — then a plan for rebuilding.
Getting an order is often the first step, not the last. Housing, custody, support, and enforcement all follow — and each one affects how safe and steady your life feels a year from now.
We handle the whole picture, so you never have to explain your story to a new person at every stage.

How fast can I get a protective order?
+In an emergency, a judge can issue a temporary (ex parte) order the same day, with a full hearing set shortly after. We can help you file quickly.
What’s the difference between a 50B and a 50C order?
+A 50B (DVPO) is for someone you have a domestic or personal relationship with — a spouse, ex, co-parent, dating partner, or household member. A 50C civil no-contact order is for someone you don’t, like an acquaintance or a stranger.
Will a protective order affect custody?
+It can. A judge can set temporary custody and visitation as part of the order, and domestic violence is a factor in custody decisions. We help protect your children’s safety.
What if we share children, a home, or finances?
+That’s exactly where a family-law team helps. A protective order can address the home, temporary support, and custody. Matters like divorce, custody, and division of assets are handled separately — and our family-law team can help with those too, whenever you’re ready.
Do I need photos or police reports to get an order?
+They help, but they aren’t required. Your testimony matters. We help you present your account and any evidence clearly and credibly.
Is this confidential?
+Yes. Your consultation is confidential, and we handle these cases with discretion and care.
